| SILVER & EPNS |
| This
is a really a very attractive EPNS coffee pot and creamer. Manufactured
by the excellent maker 'Mappin' who produced some superb silver plate and
their work is highly desirable due to its classic style and sheer quality
of workmanship. Both the items are marked "Legacy Plate" and I
am unable to date them but I would imagine them to be 1920-30. They are
certainly very nice pieces in a very classical style.

| Condiment
sets are remarkably desirable and certainly make a very attractive centerpiece
for a dining table. This is a particularly nice example and dates from the
late 19th Century. It is marked "M & Co" (Mappin who later
became Mappin & Webb). All the items are hand cut glass and they are
exceptionally well cut. The set comprises a pierced tray with a decorative
handle and pepper pot with a plated silver top, two jars for vinegar and
oil both with hand cut glass stoppers and a mustard container with a hinged
silver plate lid and a finely crafted mustard spoon, again nicely marked
"EPNS". This is a rather rare item and would enhance any dinner
table. There are a few very minor chips on the base of the stoppers of the
two bottles due to general usage and a small amount of erosion on the base
of the tray under the containers however this certainly does not detract
from the sheer elegance of the piece and is certainly not noticeable in
general use.

| An
excellent pair of items; although they have been made separately they go
together superbly. I could well imagine that the watch has always been with
the stand as it is in such superb condition. The watch carries no marks
of wear at all which is unusual and the engine turned rear cover is as good
as the day it was made. The silver watch stand has a very nice patina and
bears the hallmarks for Birmingham 1906 (Anchor, Lion and date letter 'g').
Maker 'F&C'. Backed in dark green/black leather and lined with green
velvet and watered silk. Two minor marks but otherwise in excellent condition. The watch has a Swiss movement, which is exceptionally well made. Double sunk mint white enamel dial totally free of cracks, chips or other damage. Subsidiary seconds dial at six. Blued ornate pierced steel hands, which may not be original. Decorated engine turned plates, gilt trim wheels, cock table with ruby end stone, compensated bi-metallic wheel and overcoil steel Breguet design balance spring. Regulation is by Bosley design. The case is in superb condition and as good as the day it was made. Birmingham marks for 1919 (Anchor, Lion, date letter 'u'). Maker 'ALD'. Inner case numbered 64542. Recently cleaned and overhauled, new BCL crystal fitted. A good timekeeper and a very fine watch. Very collectable as all forms of desk ornamentation are highly desirable. This is a very well made electro-plate small teapot in excellent condition. It was made in Birmingham in about 1880 and is of excellent quality. The hinge on the lid is machined from solid, all the soldering is exceptionally well done and the silver plating still looks superb and there are no areas of wear. It is a nice and simple design, 3¾" (95mm) high and is in excellent condition and without any dents or scratches. It is certainly a very attractive and desirable item. Click photo for large image |
